I am a beauty junkie. I am not ashamed to admit to having the new MAC line release dates on my calendar and a dresser full of beauty tools. I have gone through dozens of flat irons, from $15 irons to $200 irons. From 1/2" irons to super wide irons. The pearl sounds gimmicky to me, but whatever Remington did with this styler works.For the record, I have very fine, very long, very damaged hair (from dyeing) that is naturally wavy. The 2" extra wide plates make a big difference. It speeds up the work by needing less strokes. This is our 4th hair straightener. Even with the wider plates, it still glides very smooth with minimal effort. Maybe the real powdered pearls in the ceramics work.The temperature is displayed clearly with a blue LED light. It is neat as there is no noticeable bump around the back of the iron for the display. It is housed inside the handle and you won't see the numbers unless it is plugged.Once the temperature desired is reached, a beep will alert you that it is ready to use.It also doesn't take a long time to heat up. It has 3 buttons on the side, one is to power up, the other two with a "+" and "_" symbols are to adjust the temperature setting. I just got this on Christmas (I'm using my dad's account) and I am in love with it. I've been a house model at Vidal Sassoon for more years than I care to remember and as such am very familiar with the virtues of the flat iron (it helps make a geometric cut look even stronger). I asked my stylist back in 1999 or 2000 who manufactured the iron she used and on her recommendation I purchased the same one (the top of the line at that time), an Italian-made Solano Sapphire Iron, from a beauty supply store. I've been using that (obviously well-made) iron ever since with no problems but I came to observe that my stylist was now using something else and so asked her about it.It seems that in the last 10 or so years, ceramic plates have become the hot (pun intended) new technology in flat irons--they apparently treat the hair more gently at high temperatures than the non-stick metal plates. She now uses and recommends the irons made by GHD; they, however (like the Sapphire), are quite expensive and I just couldn't justify spending the money when there was nothing...

Switching from Chi Straightener
I have been using the Remingston S9500 for the past three days.You should know that I have been using the CHI ceramic straigtener for the past two years and I noticed that my CHI was starting to take longer and longer to straighten my hair. I was excited to try a new straightener, but was leary that it wouldn't have the same performance that my Chi has been able to provide me. Here are my observations:PROS:- Heats up QUICK. I have no problem hitting the maximum 450 degree setting in less than a minute!- I LOVE the ability to actually choose a specific temperature. The CHI only had a sliding temperature gauge, with no actual settings.- The 450 degree setting really flattens my hair QUICK. It seems a lot hotter than my CHICONS:- The handle isn't as thick so I have to hold my hand towards the back otherwise it gets really hot on the outside. It does the job! Down and dirty, hot and fast, this is your tool. Four stars for doing the job but with reservations: be careful or you'll be visiting the ER with some very nasty burns.This is an entirely different kind of curling iron than what I'm used to and the first thing I want to say is : DON'T GET BURNED! If you aren't a pro at handling a curling iron, stay away from this one. And don't let the kids use it either. This baby gets hot fast and it doesn't have the clippie bar a traditional iron has so it's a little trickier to hold your hair and get it wrapped around the wand. A "glove" comes with it to protect you hand since you have to actually hold your hair on the barrel. The glove may be something special but it looks and feels just like those cheap exfoliating shower gloves you can get in the drugstore. It really doesn't give you that much protection. It's better than nothing but the heat comes right through so you better work fast.I like that...

SO Exceeded My Expectations!
I've used inexpensive blow-dryers for decades (my two most recent are a Conair Ionic Cord-keeper and a compact Vidal Sassoon, both 1875 watts) but upon using this model, I'm a convert to you-get-what-you-pay-for.This Remington is the standard professional shape (not collapsible), with the standard heat options (cool, warm, hot; plus a button for a burst of cold), airflow options (medium and high; the enclosed concentrator and diffuser can be attached to further customize the airflow), and 1875 watts.But that's the end of "standard." This model is slightly heavier than my other dryers, the weight being a sturdier motor that's warranted for 4 years. The motor makes it the first dryer with enough oomph that I can hold it the recommended 8-inches away from my head and still get great heat and airflow to my hair. (And it's the first time the tips of my thumb and index finger are healing; they were constantly dry and cracked from needing to hold my old blow-dryers...

From its curvy shape to its pink switches to its matching companion products (a curling wand and a straightener), this dryer is clearly designed for a woman. My wife is a small woman, however, so it's just too large and heavy for her to handle comfortably. Moreover, she has fine hair, yet this monster has a motor with a whopping 1875 watts, the "maximum allowable power," according to the copy on the box. Its diffuser attachment also seems to be designed for someone with big hair.As for the other claims on the box, I'm very skeptical. It promises a salon experience with its "pearl ceramic grill with real crushed pearls for faster airflow." But airflow is primarily a function of the motor and the nozzle, not the grill. The box also extols its "internal electronic ion generator for maximum therapeutic benefit." Sorry. We haven't noticed any therapeutic benefits in the process of using it. Worth the money!
I had been researching hair straightners for the last month or so and I must say I was impressed with this product! I received it in the mail today and just finished using it because I wanted to make sure it worked! I was a little skeptical at first when I got it out of the box and picked it up b/c it was very light weight but it really does the job! I have had another hair straightner that was 2 inches by Remington and I must say it didn't heat up near as quick as this one did. If your like me, I have really thick, natural curly hair and sometimes it takes me 3-4 times to get my hair straight which can be frustrating and very time consuming. This little gadget only took me a total of 5 minutes to straighten my whole head with shoulder length hair. :) It doesn't pull your hair like some of the other ones do and its easy to press together which is advantage for me b/c I suffer with severe arthritis. Great Product!
So I have been looking for over 2 years for a straightner that compared to the CHI in quality but not price! And this is it! Gets hot very quickly, only have to go over my hair once and it is straight as a board. I have tried so many other brands and nothing works like the Remmington. I go to bed with my hair wet, get up the next morning its super wavy and frizzy and after 5 minutes my hair is straight. I would buy this product time and time again!
